The centrality of Irish Saints to the evangelizing of not only Ireland, England and Scotland, but also the Continent is not well known. Certainly St. Patrick is well known and a few other great figures, but many Irish monks and missionaries that should be known are not. Their impact on history is a story that must be told! The vast majority of these saints lived during the 4th—10th centuries, a period in which Ireland was known as the “land of saints and scholars” — it produced many saintly missionaries after the conversion of the isle by the great St. Patrick. For example, to name a few, St. Columba, St. Columban, St. Gaul, St. Aidan and St. Boniface. Come and join us for an adventure in Ireland with the Saints of the Emerald Isle. The cost is $20/person and will come to Our Lady of the Presentation, Kansas City on Oct. 13th, 20th, and 27th from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm. Church History I:
In this course students examine and analyze the history of the Church from its foundation by Jesus Christ in the first century to about the year 1450, shortly after the beginning of the Renaissance. The major secular influences which impacted the Catholic Church are examined and special emphasis is placed upon the movement of the Holy Spirit to aid the Church in crisis and protect her when in harm’s way. We will analyze major crises such as early persecutions, the Arian heresy, the schism with the Eastern Orthodox and the Inquisition in order to see how dealing with these crises has increased and enhanced the Church’s understanding of the central mysteries of the Christian faith. The cost is $25/person and will come to Christ the King, Kansas City, on Oct. 14th, 21st, 28th, and Nov. 4th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Register
